First Down Program

Announced 1/7/19, Financial Assistance for Homebuyers in Rhode Island is BACK!

In an effort to assist potential homebuyers afford the costs of buying a new home, Rhode Island Housing offers the First Down Program, a forgivable loan that targets homebuyers in five Rhode Island communities: Providence, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, Warwick, and Cranson. The program aids first-time homebuyers with up to $7,500 in down payment assistance. And, it's even forgivable for some borrowers, meaning you may never have to pay it back.

The basic requirements for the program are:

  • You are a first-time homebuyer
  • Your total household income is less than $93,623 (for a 1-2 person household)
  • The home you're buying will be your primary residence
  • You are a legal United States Citizen
